About The Contemporary

Our programs support artists and arts organizations of diverse backgrounds.

We engage the community by providing space for creative pursuits, and by hosting public events such as film screenings, performances, exhibitions, artist talks, poetry readings, workshops, and more. We welcome groups for tours, field trips, meetings, and private or public events.

We house several independent galleries, a black box theater operated by Tampa Fringe, and an artist residency program hosted by Tempus Projects. The 3rd floor of the Kress building features more than 20 individual artist studios, and our ground floor is home to the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts.

At Kress Contemporary, we promote and celebrate all forms of art. Our vision is to become a leading cultural institution that serves as a hub for artistic expression and engagement, providing artists with the resources they need to thrive.

Cultural Programming

Kress Contemporary offers programming that caters to participants of all ages and skill levels. Through a variety of workshops and lectures, visitors can explore media such as photography and printmaking while receiving guidance from experienced artists. Our programs inspire critical thinking about art and its impact. By connecting patrons with local studio artists and historians, Kress Contemporary fosters a greater appreciation for the diversity and creativity of the Tampa Bay community.

Centrally located in the heart of Ybor City, Kress Contemporary is dedicated to cultivating a large and diverse art community. Our mission is to provide local, emerging, and mid-career artists with studio space, exhibition opportunities, and engaging events that highlight the visual, performing, and literary arts of this region.
