Opening Reception at Reverb Gallery

Dogs occupy a strange position in our lives. They are companions, family members, protectors, and objects of affection, but they are also animals we train, direct, and command.

At Your Command explores this relationship through oversized canine forms and a body of work that considers what happens when something familiar is taken beyond its expected scale. Bringing together sculpture, sewn textiles, and works constructed on faux leather, the exhibition examines the visual and psychological relationship between humans and dogs.

Opening reception Thursday 9/17 at Reverb Gallery 6 - 9 PM

How does our perception of an animal change when its scale changes? And what does it mean to command something that has become larger than ourselves? Scale plays a central role throughout the exhibition. Dogs are typically understood through their proximity to the human body: something we look down at, walk beside, hold, pet, or control.

At Your Command creates a space where the familiar becomes unfamiliar. Brandin Vance is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores the collision between personal experience, memory, the loss of, and the dystopia of the subconscious.
