Exploring the aesthetics and labor of self-optimization in an era of accelerated capitalism, One in the Hand, Two in the Fold considers how the internet, consumer tools, and self-improvement culture encourage a cycle of perpetual reinvention. When individuals are urged to brand, perform, and refine themselves for public consumption, obedience becomes a virtue and unpaid labor is masked by curated “lifestyles.”
