CURRENTS opens at Kress Contemporary this Thursday, July 17, showcasing bold new work from resident artists

TAMPA, FL – Kress Contemporary invites the public to the opening of CURRENTS: New Work from the Artists of Kress Contemporary, a dynamic group exhibition debuting Thursday, July 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. inside the historic Kress building in Ybor City.

CURRENTS brings together fresh work by 14 artists who maintain studios at Kress Contemporary, offering visitors a look at what’s being created within one of Tampa’s most vibrant art spaces. The exhibition features a range of media and perspectives, underscoring the diversity and creative energy of the local artist community.

CURRENTS is curated by HCC Arts Director Amanda Poss and features artworks by Karol Batansky, Marc Brechwald, Ashley Cantero, Dave Decker, Elizabeth Fontaine-Barr, Eileen Goldenberg, Mary-Helen Horne, Sarah Hull, Chase Parker, Carlos Pons, Lisa Ramudo, Lynn Rattray, Marilyn Silverman and Jessica Veguez.

The exhibition will remain on view through July 24 during gallery hours:

  • Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The opening reception coincides with Third Thursday at Kress, which includes additional exhibitions and events throughout the building

  • out of the blue at Honey Gallery, featuring junkyrd and ale salaman (6–11 p.m.)

  • Vae Victis: Quintas Sunistra and Graceful Abandon: Brittany Metz at Tempus Projects (open until 8 p.m.)

  • One in the Hand, Two in the Fold at OXH Gallery (6–9 p.m.)

  • Tampa Fringe’s Anything Goes Open Mic at 7:30 p.m.

  • Ybor Art Factory’s Exhibition & Auction (opens at 6 p.m.)

As part of the opening, Kress Contemporary is also launching #MadeAtKress, a new hashtag celebrating the creativity emerging from its studios. Visitors are encouraged to share their favorite moments from the exhibition—and the works that inspire them—using the hashtag for a chance to be featured on Kress Contemporary’s social media.
